What a week!!!

Posted by on January 19, 2018

My goodness we seem to have had a very busy and exciting week in Paddington class!!

In English we have been looking more into the story of Hamlet and making predictions on what we think the play might be about. We began by looking at objects in a box and describing what these objects looked like. The children came up with inventive and descriptive ideas about the objects and were fascinated to think of where they came from. We have been thinking about characters and how the characters might feel in different situations by completing lots of different drama tasks. It has been brilliant to see the children stepping out of their comfort zones to perform to the class.

In Maths this week we have focussed on addition and how to add two one digit numbers together using concrete, pictorial and abstract representations. The children have worked incredibly hard in Maths which lead to them all being on the pot of gold in Wednesdays maths lesson.

I was very impressed with spellings this week in Paddington class. It was clear that the children had been practising these spellings at home and they have then implemented what they have been learning into their English work. Well done guys!! Don’t forget the spellings for this week which are ‘ing’ words.

History this week we continued to look at Florence Nightingale and created a timeline to show when events happened in her life. The children loved matching the pictures and the dates to create their timeline and learning a little bit more about Florence. Sophie very kindly brought in a book on Florence Nightingale from home, we shared the book with the class and everyone found it very funny that Florence was the proud owner of two cats. Can you tell someone in your family a fact you know about Florence Nightingale?

We have been very creative this week and have begun our junk modelling mission to create a castle. The children worked in teams to select the appropriate materials and then began to piece all the cardboard together to create castle structures. This is to be continued…..

WOW what a fantastic forest school session we have just had. We played lots of forest school games and then began to make bird feeders for all the birds to eat whilst it is very cold outside. The children used hoop cereal to thread onto pipe cleaners and then joined each piece to their friends to create the bird feeders. Everyone worked together to feed the birds and we can’t wait to see how much is left next week.

  • Please can you ensure your children have outdoor PE kits on a Thursday. This includes long tracksuit bottoms, a white T-shirt, a jumper to keep warm and trainers.
  • On forest school days for Paddington class please can we remember to send children in with hats, scarfs and gloves. Although the children spend lots of time running around it is still very chilly.

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend.

Miss Leatherland 🙂
